I’ve always romanticized the idea of travel, but it wasn’t until fairly recently that I really fell in love with it.
My love of travel began in 2018 after I visited one of my best friends, who boldly moved across the country from Rhode Island to Phoenix, Arizona for a job after graduating college.
I remember thinking he was insane. I had always considered myself a homebody, so I couldn’t fathom anyone taking a job so far from home, but he was no stranger to travel.
At 24 years old, I’d hardly been outside of New England. Until then, I’d been to a distant relative’s wedding in Missouri and a senior trip to Disney— but those were both while I was in high school.
This trip to Phoenix was my first real adventure, and it was one of the best times of my life. You can read all about it here, but if you want the TL;DR, we hiked, day-drank, and even spent a few days in Vegas.
I remember returning to what felt like a dead-end retail job at the time and thinking, “Wow, I just want to plan more adventures.”

Later that same year, my younger brother took a job that required him to move to Colorado, and I jumped at the chance to help him move there. We made the trek in under four days, and during that initial cross-country adventure, I fell head over heels for the thrill of road trips and the beauty the United States has to offer. We didn’t even really have a chance to stop and sightsee (although when he moved back home, I planned an actual itinerary).
Fast-forward to mid-2019, another friend invited me to visit California with her. She had just quit her job to pursue building her own business as a life coach and was flying to LA to meet with and learn from fellow coaches. Again, I jumped at the chance.
Just as my wanderlust peaked, though, the world paused in 2020. Nevertheless, amidst that chaos, I started making day trips around Rhode Island with friends, and we began to enjoy some New England travel.

That’s where A Postcard from Katie was born!
Even though the world shut down in 2020, a few good things came out of it. Kelvin (whom I affectionately refer to as Mr. K) and I started dating, and we adopted our beautiful Australian shepherd, Lilo, in December of that same year.
As the world started to open up again, our little trio started going on road trips further and further outside of New England. What began with camping trips up north turned into epic adventures down the East Coast.
In August 2024, we adopted a second Australian Shepherd named Lucy. We do our best to include our pups in all of our adventures, so you’ll find plenty of dog-friendly activities here. We also plan trips with friends with children, so you’re likely to also find a few family-friendly adventures here too!
